Bishop Olaus Stephani Bellinus [Parents] [image] was born 1 in 1539 in Sweden. He died 2 on 13 Jul 1617 in Västerås, Västmanland, Sweden. He was buried 3 in 1617 in Västerås, Sweden (Västerås Cathedral). Olaus graduated 4 in 1562 in University of Rostock, Pommern. He graduated 5 in 1566 in University of Griefswald, Pommern. He was ordained 6 made bishop of Västerås Diocese on 12 Dec 1589 in Västerås, Sweden (Västerås Cathedral). TIMELINE:1540 King Gustav I Vasa translated the Bible into Swedish and begins to favor the Lutheran Church in Sweden.1562 Before showing up as a student at Rostwick in 1562, he studied at the University of Uppsala in Sweden. Attended University of Rostwick in Pomerania (now Mecklenburg, Germany), a hotbed at the time of Lutheran and humanist philosophies. He soon moved to the University of Griefswald, in the Duchy of Pomerania. This university was also influential in early Lutheran circles.1566 May have finished studies in Pomerania at Griefswald.1567 He is school master in Gävle, Sweden.1570 Suffers much as a result of the great fire of Gävle.1570 King John III, influenced by his Polish Catholic queen, begins reintroducing Catholic practices back into the Church of Sweden. He does this with introduction of the "Red Book."1572-1581 Parson at Okelbo, Gävleborg, Sweden.1581-1589 Pastor at Gävle, Gävleborg, Sweden.1589 Dec 12, appointed bishop of Västerås diocese.1592 Nov 17. The death of King John III caused a struggle between his son Sigismund (a Catholic) and his brother Karl (a Protestant). Duke Karl calls the Protestant church of Sweden to the Uppsala Synod to define itself so Sigismund would pledge allegiance to the Lutheran Church.1593 Feb. As a bishop at the Uppsala Synod, he took a leading role in banning elements of Calvinism from the Lutheran Church of Sweden. (This decision angered the future King Karl greatly, who was secretly a Calvinist.) The synod recognized the Bible as its only authority, recognized the Augsburg Confession, and banned all Catholic practices.1594 Having accepted the Uppsala Synod, Sigismund becomes king. He is also King of Poland and rules Sweden from there, leaving Karl as regent in Sweden.1598 With battle between the heirs looming, Bellini is asked whom he supported. He said that, "Sigismund, Karl, and God would get what belonged to them." It was purposefully vague. King Sigismund was defeated by Karl at the Battle of Stångebro. Karl became king.1600 He is tried with other bishops for "acts of popery" and for supporting Sigismund at the Inquisition of Linköping. He was forced to raise funds in his diocese for a war fund, but his priests rejected it.1602 Karl rejected proposals for new Church handbook. Tension between king and Bishop Bellinus mount.1606 He was removed by the king from the bishopric at Västerås.1608 The king reinstated the Bisop to Västerås.1617 Bishop dies after a long illness at 10 at night on July 13. Men härmed hade hans lyckas stjärna uppnått höjdpunkten.
